Modern learning: how to avoid internet distractions during class

Students are devaluing their education by not giving their full attention to professors in class while they succumb to the distraction that technology so conveniently provides. With social media and online streaming services, the list of distractions is endless.

This issue is not so simple, however, in that often, students get off task when they feel that what the professor is lecturing on is neither valuable nor worth their full attention. Such reasoning is understandable — if you already know the information or consider it irrelevant, then what is the point in paying attention to it? The problem is that as students, we filter the information we receive based on the knowledge we have at that moment. Consequently, we lose out on important details that go unnoticed.
